Beck and the great berry battle

Hi guys welcome back to my blog and if you are new hello my name is Lauren and I am a British book blogger who mainly focuses on children’s books. Today I wanted to discuss a old book that I found in my library which in my opinion is totally underrated.

Based on the Disney Fairies Laura Driscoll has written about Beck a Animal Talent fairy who is caught in the middle of a war between the Hummingbirds and the Chipmunks who are fighting over a nest that has been stolen from the hummingbirds.

The book is part of a collection that Disney and a mixture of authors have created but it is very difficult to find the book series now so you really need to hunt for them! my library has them to borrow so I am really lucky but places such as bay should hopefully have them.

I think these books would be good for independent readers as they are still quite short about 80 pages but have chapters which mean they are slightly more complicated than an easy reader; the font is quite large though so they do make easy reading.

I really like how the book has hidden morals about not jumping to conclusion and how teamwork is better than fighting with each other.

Hopefully this post has helped you find a different book series for your children and yourself to enjoy please let me know what you think in the comments below.

Lottie Luna Book Review

Good day everyone today I have a new book series that I have just found to review and I am really excited to share it with you; the series is very similar to Amelia Fang and Isadora Moon which are both series that I have reviewed on here.

Lottie Luna is a little girl that is also a Princess (this is a secret she doesn’t want anyone to know) and has brilliant superpowers; this meant she could save a little werewolf from drowning and from being trapped in a building. Although this is exciting in itself the main plot is much more mysterious, the bloom garden Lottie and her friends are building keeps getting destroyed.

Lottie gets involved in her new school from the get go after winning the Garden design competition and making new friends despite her initial nervousness; After working hard to make the garden beautiful Lottie is heart broken to find that it has been vandilised and that the mysterious deputy head teacher and his son were acting suspiciously.

Day after day Lottie and her pals would come to school to witness the awful attempts made on the garden; no matter how awful things seemed Lottie refused to give up on her goal and let the vandal win because of this her friends decide to have a stake out to catch them in the act but are they successful?

Read Lottie Luna And The Bloom Garden to fins out

Lightning Girl Superpower Showdown

The photo above does not give credit to the first book in my November reading challenge which as you can see is the fourth book in the Lightning Girl series written by Alesha Dixon and Katy Birchall (ghost writer) I have been reading this series since it first came out in 2018 which feels like ages ago but it was only last year.

Lightning Girl is also known as Aurora Beam a 12 girl who has her world turned upside down when she finds out she is a superhero; the book is written in Aurora’s point of view and is aimed at nine to twelve year olds however, I do think that children older than the age twelve would still enjoy the series as it doesn’t focus much on age and more on thrill seeking adventure.

Book Four is based on trying to return the light of the world and capturing the evil Mr Mercury who once again has managed to steal a precious stone but not just any stone it is the stone of truth and nobility which belonged to the Queen.

We don’t get to hear much of the Bright Sparks in this book as Aurora has to keep secrets from them in order to keep them safe but we do get more laughs from Alfred my absolute favourite character in the whole series; the only issue is I was reading this just before bed and I could not stop laughing.

We do learn more about Darek and his side of the family and we get to meet Mr Mercury’s Mother and Sister; I feel so awful for her as it must be a real shock finding out both of your children are criminals. I do enjoy seeing the Bright Sparks interact with her and show her plenty of compassion.

I really recommend this series to anybody who loves good vs bad as this is pure genius. I really like how it is based around the women being more powerful than the men.

Felicity Wishes Designer Drama

I love love love fantasy as a book theme so when my library had Designer Drama I knew I had to borrow it! Felicity is a teenage fairy (I think?????) who loves all things fashion and making friends, the books are aimed at 6-11 year olds but as a read aloud it could be read to anyone over 3 as it is just so cosy and sweet.

The book series is written by Emma Thompson and is divided into three short stories: Cinema Collision, Fashion Passion and Designer Drama which I think is brilliant for younger readers who don’t have a long attention span and each story was just over 20 pages and the font is big and bold for easy reading.

I am not usually a big fan of books that focus on friendship but this book does not shove it down your throat which I really really like; as someone with autism I don’t always understand friendship and life itself is confusing so books are an escape for me.

From what I can see the books are £3.99 but because they have been out for a while you can get them for cheaper but to be fair they are already a good price. I also want to mention the really cute illustrations which are added throughout the book to break up the words which once again is great for younger children.

Movies We Watched October 19

Despicable Me 3- This film got me in the mood for movies so it deserves a lot of credit for coming up with the blog series where I will review the films we watched each month. I love this movie as the series is brilliant and very adorable. I love the way Agnes searches for a unicorn in the forest despite everyone saying they don’t exist which screams childhood innocence and how Lucy tries to be a good mother even if she almost gets Margot married.

Angry Birds- This film took a while for me to get into it but I ended up loving it which shows you should always stick with things because you may end up loving it. This film is about a outcast bird who has anger problems and how he manages tisane the day when the pigs steal all the eggs.

The Book Of Life- I am currently watching this beautiful film which teaches us about the tradition of the day of the dead, I am obsessed with the day of the dead and Mexican culture so this film makes me really happy. I love Spanish so obviously I have to love this it is against my nature not to. This film has all the feels in it and shows us that our loved ones are always with us even if we can not see them.

Gnome Alone- This took a while to get into and I was never fully engaged throughout but it was a lot better than some of the movies this month that we never finished watching either because they just were not that great or because it was too scary for Chloe. I liked the concept of fighting for what is good and that not everyone is your friend even if they say they are. Plus Chloe liked the main character who was called Chloe the only issue is she had pink hair and now she wants pink hair!

Ballerina/Leap- this film possibly my new favourite film as it is beautifully written and the characters are so relatable. The music that goes along with the film is stunning and I totally recommend getting the soundtrack to it. I like how the film is about two orphan friends who want to run away to Paris and live their dreams. It is not all sunshine and rainbows for them as they have to face a lot to achieve their life long goals but it shows us that if you work hard for what you want then success is in reaching distance.

The Spooky Tale of Captain Underpants Hack-a-ween – I think this film is new to Netflix and oh my gosh this is such a hilarious movie; normally it takes me a while to get into films but I was captivated by it from start to finish. If you haven’t watched this or the series on Netflix you are missing out big time.

Shrek- I have watched all of the Shrek films this month and I have loved all of them so much! I have also watched the mini films as well and I am hoping that I can go see the musical.

As you can see I have watched a lot of films this month so I hope you can enjoy what I have watched too.

Witch In Winter

Ok I will set the scene! Picture me in my local library deciding which books I want to borrow when I walk over to the new books section and what do I see book four in the Witch for a week series but that can’t be right because I thought it was a trilogy. I was wrong Kaye Unmansky has brought out book four in one of my favourite series (yes I know I love lots of series) well I practically fainted in excitement.

Witch In Winter is the fourth book and it is absolutely brilliant, based in winter the gang are back together again to find the Red Witch aka Magenta who has gone missing leaving the tower without an owner. The humour that is added will make your sides ache with laughter but also make you feel slightly sick when Corbett can’t understand why everyone know why Magenta was but off her tea; he was eating worms and you guessed it Magenta was eating spaghetti!

This book faces a new challenge in the shape of evil Jack Frost who wants to take the tower for himself and move to a different world so he can escape the authorities. By adding we characters we get to see the dynamic change within the group and I love seeing them develop as people or animals.

You really need to check this series out.

Halloween And Autism

Halloween may seem like a fun time of year for children everywhere but when you are autistic it can be terrifying, overwhelming and way too stimulating.

Today I wanted to talk about being considerate when either trick or treating or when you hand out sweets; people with autism often enjoy activities labelled for children only so people often make comments that can be hurtful to us. I know it can be difficult to understand if you haven’t experienced it for yourself but doing some research could help.

This year people with autism will carry blue pumpkins however this is quite controversial as some say they shouldn’t need to, I do feel that it is a step in the right direction but we have such a long way to go before I can be satisfied that everyone is compassionate to those who need it most.

Not all people are verbal so if someone doesn’t say thank you or trick or treat it’s not their fault; some may not wear costumes because of sensory overload but they still deserve to have fun.

I have some photos I want to share with you so if you check down below you will see them.

Am I A Book Snob ?????

I was scrolling through Facebook tonight and I saw the book snob tag in my feed so I have decided to give it a go myself and you guys can be the judge of it 💓

Adaptation Snob- Do you always read the book before you watch the film? I don’t particularly mind which order I watch it in but I would like to say that I do like books to be 100% accurate.

Format Snob- You can only chose one format in which to read books for the rest of your life. Which format do you choose; Physical books, Ebooks or Audiobooks? I like physical books so I would chose them but being the over thinker I am I worry about the future and my eyesight is awful as it is so I panic about not being able to see the words.

Genre Snob- You have to ditch one genre never to be read again for the rest of your life which would you choose? Romance is something I despise as I don’t understand it due to being Autistic so I never read it anyway.

Uber Genre Snob- You can only read one genre for the rest of your life which do you choose? This is very difficult for me as I like most children’s fiction and non fiction but I would think I would read fantasy books for the rest of my life as more books that I read are typically fantasy.

Community Snob- Which genre do you think receives the most snubbing from the bookish community? I would say romance is the genre that receives the most snubbing as people tend to judge what’s in the books and what that makes the person reading the book. I think history has a big role to play in this as these novels would be hidden away like a dirty little secret.

Snobbery Recipient- Have you ever been snubbed for something that you have read or for reading in general? I have been judged many times for reading children’s fiction instead of adult fiction but I don’t let it get to me as I would have nightmares reading adult fiction.

Thank you to musings of a book girl .com and tia and all the books for this tag.
